There is a new permanent resident card for landed immigrants (not needed by anyone who has their citizenship). Anyone who has applied and been accepted as a Permanent Resident in Canada must get one.

If you leave Canada at any time after December 31, 2003 you will not be allowed back into Canada without it.

There are specific dates for applying for this card as follows:

2000	March and April 2003
1996 - 1999	May 2003
1992 - 1995	June 2003
1988 - 1991	July 2003
1980 - 1987	August 2003
1973 - 1979	September 2003
Before 1979	Anytime after October 2002
