A Different Booklist Cultural Centre
Take part in Emancipation Day August 1 with Emancipation on Bloor. A Different Booklist Cultural Centre - The People's Residence, is planning a simple, extensive, meaningful 2-hour event all along the Bloor St. Culture Corridor (Yonge > Christie) to mark Emancipation Day on Sunday, August 1 from 1-3pm. Emancipation on Bloor takes passersby through a series of "statements" through artistic expression, with the sidewalks providing the stages. Find out more at their website.
Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre
It’s never too early to plan your autumn Arts & Culture journey at the Miles Nadal JCC. Their popular fall virtual programs will be listed and available for registration on August 11. Don’t miss your opportunity to sign up for online Adult Hebrew and Yiddish classes, Access and Inclusion arts programs, music lessons, movie showings, fascinating cultural lectures, book talks, and great concerts! Museum of Estonians Abroad/VEMU
August 20 marks the 30th anniversary of the re-independence of the Republic of Estonia. VEMU will be commemorating this historic day with a ticketed web event featuring a full program of interviews, music and archival recordings. The open calls for submissions to the VEMU collection campaigns of Estonian School Lore and the Baltic Canadian Imprints Collection Initiative: COVID-19 are also continuing through the month. Soundstreams
Premiering August 19 at 9pm, Soundstreams invites you to join them for a quiet space of reflection on the changing world around us, with Quiet Time. Songwriter, singer and musician Robin Dann, no stranger to creating this type of atmosphere, guest curates an audiovisual musical experience that calms, soothes, and inspires.
From past personal experiences, the beauty of the Arctic illuminates the music of both Dann and composer Allison Cameron, as they create a welcoming space inspired by some of the quietest sounds of the world – after all, silence is golden.

Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema
This August on Hot Docs at Home, delve into the life and legacy of legendary improv guru, Del Close. Search for rare, expensive and delicious white Alba truffles deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy with the Truffle Hunters. Join acclaimed hip-hop artist Topaz Jones as he reimagines the Black ABCs for 2020 in his timely and eye-popping visual album, Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma, the latest free screening of the For Viola series. Examine how getting back to the land is tied to other movements such as Black Lives Matter, Idle No More and Times Up in this month's member exclusive: Food for the Rest of Us. Women's Art Association of Canada
WAAC's 2021 member exhibition, Summertime continues in Dignam Gallery until September 3.
WAAC Presents a workshop event with Catharine Somerville, Plein Air Painting: USE OF LIGHT, FORM AND COLOUR. In this workshop, artists will go beyond static composition and truly explore movement of lines to energize their design and composition and focus on the way light informs shapes. The workshop will be held on August 26, from 1 to 4 pm. Limited space to 12 participants with $25 fee. The Bata Shoe Museum is so excited to welcome everyone back to Toronto’s favourite shoebox! Be sure to get your tickets in advance and jump the line to explore their four exciting galleries, including their most recent exhibition The Great Divide: Footwear in the Age of Enlightenment. Royal Ontario Museum
Great Whales Up Close and Personal is on view through March 20, 2022. Showcasing the ROM’s commitment to Canada’s iconic North Atlantic whales, this exhibition features Blue, the ROM’s beloved blue whale, alongside two newly acquired skeletons: the critically endangered right whale and the deep diving sperm whale. With hands-on interactives and immersive experiences, Great Whales compares these three unique giants, from their size and diet to their intelligence and evolution, while highlighting the extensive ongoing research and conservation efforts being undertaken to save these highly at-risk mammals. Toronto Reference Library continues to offer high-quality programming you can enjoy at home with TPL’s Live & Online series, including TPL’s new Summer Books Series that presents conversations with authors of some of the hottest books around. On August 4, Anuk Arudpragasam talks about A Passage North, his searing novel of longing, loss and the legacy of war. On August 6, Jesse McCarthy discusses his debut book of essays, Who Will Pay Reparations on My Soul? On August 11, Michael LaPointe talks about his gripping debut novel, The Creep, which tells the story of an ambitious journalist with a history of bending the facts. Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir
This summer, Tafelmusik invites you to enjoy their new weekly video series! The Bloor St. Culture Corridor, Toronto's most diverse arts and culture district, is a true creative cluster, an arts and culture destination, and a collaboration between some of Toronto's most dynamic arts and culture organizations.
The Bloor St. Culture Corridor offers the public a wide variety of arts genres, from museum experiences to films, art exhibitions to music concerts, and opportunities to experience some of Toronto's cultural diversity, including Aboriginal, French, Jewish, Italian, Japanese, Estonian, African and Caribbean arts and culture.
All Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations present arts and cultural events for the public year-round in destination venues located in a cluster along a vibrant stretch of Bloor Street West. Each year more than three million members of the public go to Bloor St. Culture Corridor arts and culture destinations, and attend exhibitions, performances, and events. Together, the Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations employ more than 5,500 culture workers and generate more than $629,500,000 in economic impact each year. In 2016, The Bloor St. Culture Corridor was successful in working with the City of Toronto to have the Bloor St. Culture corridor section of Bloor St. West designated an official City of Toronto cultural corridor.
