Oana Basu: Ce poziție dețineți în acest moment?
George Ciobanu: Associate Product Manager at Ooyala in Mountain View, California (US).
Oana B.: Ce diploma ați obținut sau veți obține și de la ce instituție?
George C.: Bachelor of Computer Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec (Canada).
Oana B.: Unde ați studiat în România și ce performanțe ați avut?
George C.: Colegiul Tehnic Petru Rareș, Universitatea Politehnica București, Facultatea de Automatică și Calculatoare (2 ani). Premiul 3 în sesiunea de comunicare de Matematică, Premiul 1 în sesiunea de comunicare de Filozofie. Bursă de merit.
Oana B.: Cum v-ați decis să deveniți student la această instituție (UPB/McGill)?
George C.: Sought out the best university. Not because I care about the name (I don’t) but because that’s where the best people congregate.
Oana B.: Ce fel de pregătire (cursuri, activități extrașcolare, premii) v-a trebuit pentru a avea o aplicație de succes?
George C.: Am citit mult, am scris poezii și nuvele și software, am fost curios tot timpul.
Oana B.: Care este cel mai important lucru pe care l-ați făcut pentru a avea o aplicație de succes?
George C.: I sold myself. I made sure that I gathered all my accomplishments and put them in the best light. If you don’t think you are awesome, how would someone else?
Oana B.: Ați recomanda unui student din România instituția la care studiați/ați studiat și de ce?
George C.: Yes. One of the best universities in the world in the middle of a wonderful city, at an amazing price. Best value, with incredible reputation.
Oana B.: Care au fost obstacolele pe care a trebuit să le depășiți pentru a ajunge la acest nivel de performanță?
George C.: A poor, disoriented country, my complicated love-hate relationship with the discipline, disbelief, love and many many others.
Oana B.: Ce sfat aveți pentru elevii/studenții din România?
George C.: Work hard, be honest, do anything you want to. Remember that it is possible, you just need to look around more carefully to see someone else who’s already done it. Listen to people telling you that things are impossible but prove them wrong.
Oana B.: Ce le-ați recomanda elevilor/studenților din România să nu facă?
George C.: Don’t follow the quarrels, don’t let anything bog you down.

Oana B.: Ce ati fi dorit sa fi stiut acum X ani cand ati aplicat la colegiu?
George C.: It is 1000% worth it and totally possible – it’s a matter of putting the effort into it. Also, the major/university you apply to almost doesn’t matter – anything outside Romania will do.
