Canadian Immigrant Fair helps newcomers in Toronto
Internationally trained professionals, other newcomers, international students and temporary workers welcome! Toronto, ON
More than 300,000 immigrants and refugees come to Canada each year, many with top credentials in their professional fields. Many more thousands come on temporary work permits in hopes of staying permanently one day. Some may be fleeing war, while others are seeking new opportunities and a better life. But they all have one thing in common: they need information and guidance after they arrive to help them in their immigration journey. That’s where the cross-country Canadian Immigrant Fair, in association with Public Mobile, comes in.
On June 7, 2018, the free fair comes to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (North Building, 255 Front St. W), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This tradeshow + speakers’ series for newcomers is all about providing the information and inspiration people need as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle into their new home.
In Ontario, there has been a recent resurgence in the number of immigrants coming to the province; 39 per cent of new Canadians, or 111,925, arrived in Ontario in 2017, with 85,500 settling in the GTA. In January 2018 alone, Ontario received 10,870 new permanent residents, up 48.6 per cent from the same period last year. (Source: Immigrant, Refugees, Citizenship Canada)
The free fair will feature a tradeshow of diverse exhibitors, including career advisors, education institutes and social service agencies, plus hiring companies (like Air Canada, Bayshore Home Health, Ontario Corrections and more) and a LinkedIn professional photo booth by associate sponsor Public Mobile.
“Settling into a new country is both exciting and challenging, particularly when also trying to secure employment. To that end, we are thrilled to provide resources to assist with the challenges of today’s job market through free professional photos. We look forward to participating in this cross-country fair and connecting with new members of our community,” says David MacLean, Director of Public Mobile.
The event’s popular speakers’ series includes a banking workshop by platinum sponsor National Bank, an interview skills workshop, a careers strategies Q & A dialogue panel, session on alternative careers and more. Attendees can also get face-to-face advice at our Resumé Clinic and LinkedIn Profile Analysis Clinic.
Register before June 6 for your chance to win a year of pre-paid service with Public Mobile on Canada’s largest mobile network.
After the Toronto event, the Canadian Immigrant Fair will be held in Winnipeg in July and 5 more cities in fall 2018.
