Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Victory in Europe Day
MONTREAL – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day: “Today, we join nations around the world in marking 70 years since the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and the end of the Second World War in Europe. “Over the course of the war, more than 1 million Canadians participated in the Allied efforts in Europe, during which more than 44,000 were killed and some 55,000 wounded. We take this opportunity to pay tribute to our Canadian veterans who served so bravely, and who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could continue to live in peace and freedom. “On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our women and men in uniform, both past and present, whose courage and sacrifice in service to their country will never be forgotten.”
