Ski, Sled, Skate or Play Hhis Family Day Weekend at Blue Mountain
BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON (February 3, 2015) – Since Family Day’s introduction as an Ontario statutory holiday in 2006, families have been flocking to Blue to take in the varied on- and off-hill activities designed to keep kids moving and parents relaxed.
“Ski vacations are changing, gone are the days when everyone skied from first to last runs with no stops in-between,” said Patti Kendall, Marketing & Events Director, Blue Mountain Village. “Faced with daily demands of work and family life, guests of Blue Mountain desire a varied on- and off-hill experience with an emphasis on fun. Certainly, we have a perfect combination with a Mountain and a Village and we do our best to make sure kids do a lot, allowing parents to do less.”
What can guests expect this Family Day at Blue? Skiers and snowboarders arriving on Friday can join the Friday Night Light It Up! Rail Jam Series. With an emphasis on growing grassroots participation in the freestyle community, Blue’s Friday night terrain park series gives male and female riders a chance to win cash prizes and merchandise from ski and snowboard retailers like Salomon, Spy, Bonfire, Eira and Lifted. Competition categories include: Grom Boys 14 & Under Ski & Board, Amateur Guys & Gals Ski & Board, Outlaw Guys & Gals Ski & Board.
If skiing and snowboarding is not your thing, Blue has a busy line up of off-hill activities starting with guided snowshoe hikes at 10:30am. Thrill seekers can experience the sensation of skiing and boarding without all of the equipment on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster. Locked in to over 1km of downhill track, riders control their own speed as they twist and turn down the Niagara Escarpment. New this winter is Hike ‘n Tube – a fun, family-friendly, tubing facility for children aged three and older. For those that prefer to experience a favourite Canadian winter past time, the Mill Pond Skating rink is open 10am to 10pm, weather and conditions dependent. Lastly, the Village Events Plaza is full of action with Birds of Prey shows, the very popular interactive Groove Dancing show and a Sunday night Fireworks show that never fails to wow.
With Valentine’s Day falling in the middle of Family Day weekend, dinner options are endless with over 20 different restaurants to choose from including Asian, Greek, Italian, Steak & Seafood, Pub-style and Wine Bar.
With an activity for every age and level of ability, Blue Mountain Resort and Blue Mountain Village are the premier choice for active, fun-seeking families looking for a Family Day vacation.
