Elizabeth Dabuleanu at Heintzman House Art Show
" My hobby in art has been like a pathway leading to an infinite amount of imagery, colours, shapes and forms that bring a heightened sense of spirituality. The latter is what art communicates to me. Art transcends the physical, and penetrates the soul of the observer. Painting eventually evolved into an expression of my existence. It portrayed both my moments of happiness and of sadness. For example, I painted " wedding flowers" expressing happiness for my daughter's upcoming wedding. There was excitement in the air and this I conveyed with the bold use of complementary colours and sharp brush strokes.
The painting entitled "Sunset" depicts an extraordinary sunset I viewed while driving on Willowdale avenue around the time my father was gravely ill. I was quite moved by the sky that evening and decided to paint it. The painting became a therapeutic tool which helped me through that difficult time. I finished it after Father passed away. Every brush stroke evoked the kind words he would always tell me, the gentle smile he would gre-et me with and the strength he repeatedly instilled in me.
Now, as a grandmother myself, I enjoy my grandchildren to the fullest. My painting entitled the " Family Trinity" allowed me to tenderly depict a family moment between my husband and our grandchildren as they enjoyed a quiet time together. It was an ephemeral moment; a family bond transcending generations which was expressed through the patterns of their clothes, the palate of colour that I chose and the interplay of emotions of the figures in the painting.
I am constantly in search for subject matter for my pai-ntings. My camera is always with me and I capture moments in life that I find inspiring. As well, I find beautiful images in magazines and the newspaper which are springboards for future works of art. I compile these and other images that I gather through time and tie them to my emotions or significant events in my life in order to create art that is meaningful to me. My hope is that the captured moment or emotion at the time continues to reverberate as the painting is viewed by others in the future.
Oil is my medium of choice. The extended working time of this medium allows me to achieve the subtleties of colour and texture that I desire for a richer viewing experience. I also enjoy watercolour to quickly capture a beautiful scene. Art calms the mind, invigorates the spirit and inspires the viewer. It is a powerful tool that is essential to the human spirit, both the creator and the observer.
(On Friday April 25, 2014 until Sunday April 27, I will be exhibiting together with other Markham artists at the Heintzman House art show, 135 Bay Thorn Dr. at Royal Orchard Thornhill. As well, I will be exhibiting at the Macdonald House, 121 Centre Street , Thornhill from June 10-15, 2014 . It is with great pleasure that I invite you to be an observer and to allow your imagination to enjoy what you see as an observer. May the exhibits evoke the emotions that it does for me, emotions that are the quintessential meaning of our existence.)
