The Grey Cup trophy arrives in Toronto
MAYOR FORD AND DIGNITARIES TO RECEIVE THE CUP AT CITY HALL
Toronto – Finishing a journey that has taken it to over 100 Canadian communities, the Grey Cup trophy will arrive at its final destination in Toronto on Friday, November 16 to kick off the 100th Grey Cup Festival. The prized chalice has been aboard the 5-car Grey Cup 100 Train Tour which departed Vancouver on September 9 and will be received on Toronto soil by First Nations Chief Bryan LaForme of the Mississaugas of the New Credit.
Chief LaForme and Canadian Football League Commissioner Mark Cohon will bring the storied trophy to Toronto’s City Hall as part of a convoy made up of members of various fire and police departments. The servicemen representing these police and fire units are all CFL alumni, including many Grey Cup Champions. The official members of the convoy are as follows:
Constable Lee Knight, Peel Regional Police – 11-year CFL veteran, 1986 Grey Cup champion
Acting Sergeant John Raposo, Peel Regional Police – 4-year CFL veteran, 1996 & 1997 Grey Cup Champion
Sergeant Bruce Dickson, Halton Regional Police – 8-year CFL veteran, 1991 & 1993 Grey Cup Champion
Firefighter Randy Fabi, Oakville Fire Department – 6-year CFL veteran, 1988 Grey Cup Champion
Constable Mike Bradley, Durham Regional Police – 6-year CFL veteran, 2003 & 2005 Grey Cup Champion
Firefighter Paul Clatney, Toronto Fire Services – 7-year CFL veteran, 1986, 1988 & 1992 Grey Cup Champion
Constable Kelly Wiltshire, Ontario Provincial Police – 10-year CFL veteran, 1997 & 2005 Grey Cup Champion
Constable Grayson Shillingford, York Regional Police – 6-year CFL veteran
Members of the public will be able to get their photos taken with the Grey Cup trophy on Saturday, November 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Grey Cup 100 Train Tour’s final stop and fan celebration at Exhibition Stadium, prior to the Cavalcade of Lights from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Nathan Phillips Square and at various events throughout the 100th Grey Cup Festival.
