Across Ontario, $13.1 million was raised with more than 62,000 participants in 22 communities
TORONTO, Sept. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - More than 18,000 Torontonians gathered today at the University of Toronto, St. George (downtown) Campus to help raise over $4.2 million for breast cancer research, education and awareness.
Across Canada, over $30 million was raised with 170,000 people participating in 60 communities. This year more than 62,000 people participated in the province of Ontario with $13.1 million raised. The CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest, single-day, community-driven fundraising event in support of the breast cancer cause.
"Today, women diagnosed with breast cancer are living longer and with a better quality of life, thanks to tremendous research advancements made possible by our community's contributions," says Sandra Palmaro, CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Region. "But with one in nine Canadian women being diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, there is still so much to learn. I want to congratulate today's participants across Ontario for their commitment to continued investment in innovative and relevant research".
