Statement by the Prime Minister OF CANADA Following the Closing of the 2012 Summer olympic GAMES
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating the Canadian Olympic team following the closing of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London:
“For the past two weeks, my family and I have watched and cheered – along with the rest of the country – for our outstanding Canadian athletes competing in the London Olympic Games. I can speak for all Canadians in saying that our athletes represented our country with grace and humility. They offered the world great performances, and many moments of glory and pride for Canada, walking away with 1 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze medals.
“I would also like to express my thanks to the many coaches, volunteers and family members who supported our athletes in London.
“The pride and excitement we felt over the past two weeks will be experienced once more when our Paralympians showcase their strength and determination in London at the upcoming London 2012 Paralympic Games.”
During the closing ceremony, the Canadian Olympic team will be led out of the Olympic Stadium by Canadian flag-bearer Christine Sinclair, who captained the women’s soccer team to a well-deserved bronze medal and who represented Canada so well on the international stage.
