Canada Day Greetings from the Prime Minister
July 1, 2012
I am delighted to extend my heartfelt greetings to all Canadians on the 145th anniversary of the founding of our country. Happy Canada Day!
This is our day to celebrate the best country in the world. On Parliament Hill, in communities across the country and in the many places where Canadians serve with pride around the globe, we join in celebration. A special greeting goes out to our athletes preparing for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London. Go Team Canada!
Canada Day is a fitting occasion for us to honour Her Majesty the Queen for her dedicated service to our country as we mark her Diamond Jubilee. This year, we also commemorate the War of 1812, when French, English and Aboriginal peoples joined forces to resist a southern invasion. Their valiant efforts laid the foundations of today’s Canada - a land of peace, order and good government.
Canadians are a privileged people, in a privileged land. When I look beyond our borders, I see Canada as an island of stability in this uncertain world. We have much to be thankful for - a strong economy, a diverse population and a belief that all citizens can share in our nation’s success.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, Laureen, Ben, Rachel and I wish everyone a Happy Canada Day. Go Canada Go!
