International Diaspora Film Festival 11 - Toronto, 1 to 6 November 2011

Can Muslims and Jews ever be Friends (Again)?

The Toronto premiere screening of DAVID, a story of a young Muslim boy who is mistaken as a Jew by the Jewish community of Brooklyn. The film has recently won the Ecumenical Prize at the Montreal Film Festival 2011, and - as you read this - is in competition at the Rome Film Festival. Variety Magazine says “…quietly engaging indie David brings charm, sympathy and understatement … many small virtues add up to a winning whole”. Executive director Stephanie Levy will be in attendance. The film will be followed by a discussion panel with Muslim and Jewish thinkers on the topic.

IDFF Fundraiser for the Turkish Earthquake

The IDFF has partnered with Red Cross to contribute 50% of proceeds from two Toronto premiere screenings of ALMANYA to the relief efforts for the recent earthquake in Turkey. A representative from Red Cross will be present at the screenings to collect individual donations.

ALMANYA is a comedy-drama about three generation of Turkish immigrants in Germany. Please visit our website for complete film description.

Spotlight on Muslim and Arab Women’s Stories

In partnership with Ryerson University we are proud to present this FREE film series.

FORGET BAGHDAD is a film selected by renowned cultural studies scholar Dr. Ella Shohat (New York University), who will be giving a lecture following the film. This award winning film documents the lives of four Iraqi Jews in Israel and how they negotiate between their Arab and Jewish cultures.
