VEMU Estonian Museum Canada
VEMU's popular "Keelekohvik" Estonian Language Café, will conclude for the year on December 4, at 7pm. Suitable for beginners, you can practice your Estonian in a casual, friendly environment! On December 15 and beyond, you can watch the virtual workshop "Cooking With Käbi" on VEMU's YouTube channel to learn to cook the Estonian Christmas favourite, "verivorstid" or blood sausage. VEMU will also be participating in the Estonian Christmas Market put on by the Estonian Foundation of Canada on December 14 at the Latvian Canadian Centre. Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir
Only 2 Performances—Tickets Are Selling Fast! Celebrate the holiday season with Tafelmusik’s Messiah! Performed in the style of Handel’s own productions, it “radiates brilliance and energy, along with an emotional depth” (AllMusic). This timeless masterpiece, with its message of goodwill, hope, and humanity, remains as moving today as it was at its 1742 premiere. Joining the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir are acclaimed soloists: soprano Myriam Leblanc, praised as “perhaps the most beautiful voice to come out of Quebec in 10 years” (Samedi et rien d’autre); mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó, a “master of nuance and expressivity” (Toronto Star); tenor Jacob Perry, whose solos “give audiences goosebumps” (Stir.ca); and bass-baritone Philippe Sly, celebrated for his “expansive tonal grace” (SFGate). The Royal Conservatory
The Royal Conservatory's December concerts feature the Koerner Hall debut of the Czech Philharmonic conducted by Semyon Bychkov with pianist Daniil Trifonov and violinist Jan Mráèek on December 7 and 8. On December 5 and 6, immerse yourself in Ark, a Canada Council-funded exhibition on communal bonding drawing from indigenous African wisdom led by artist Odudu. On December 19, don’t miss Henri Fabergé Crashes the Creskins Ball—a whimsical evening of elegant chaos, games, and mystery. Finally, join the Morris Winchevsky School on December 22 for a Chanukah celebration, featuring candle lighting, traditional foods, and a social justice-focused retelling of the Maccabees’ story. Dance enthusiasts can look forward to the Kylie Thompson intensive dance workshop in the New Year on January 4 and 5, where dancers can refine their dance skills in our Sanctuary space. The Bloor St. Culture Corridor offers the public a wide variety of arts genres, from museum experiences to films, art exhibitions to music concerts, and opportunities to experience some of Toronto's cultural diversity, including Aboriginal, French, Jewish, Italian, Japanese, Estonian, African and Caribbean arts and culture.
All Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations present arts and cultural events for the public year-round in destination venues located in a cluster along a vibrant stretch of Bloor Street West. Each year more than three million members of the public go to Bloor St. Culture Corridor arts and culture destinations, and attend exhibitions, performances, and events. Together, the Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations employ more than 5,500 culture workers and generate more than $629,500,000 in economic impact each year. In 2016, The Bloor St. Culture Corridor was successful in working with the City of Toronto to have the Bloor St. Culture corridor section of Bloor St. West designated an official City of Toronto cultural corridor.
