Poems

Ripened Life Goes On

It only gets worse
Water gets saltier
Noises grow bigger and louder
Breathing, heavier and faster
Understanding, less and less clear
Foreign accents more Arabic, more Asian
I remember the time when I used to loose my mind
Without a care or control
I remember free feelings without guilt or fear
When politics did not affect me so internally
When every woman had a smell and a taste
I am concluding that nature is not natural anymore
The white teeth have turned yellow
The skin not so elastic, not so smooth
The smile not so wide
Sex not so exciting
Death stares at me from the open casket
Of my cousin in law, Mihai
His wife faints and death waves at me
From the back of the Romanian chapel
My mother is hit by a car in Bucharest
I imagine her tiny body
flying through the air
“All’s well that ends well”
Writes my philosopher
brother
I ask myself: What end?
What’s well?
”Icarus”, Constanțiu Mara

Sari Dienes, our sad weather queen!

The ghost of Sari Dienes
Wrapped in bones of assemblage
Covered in remains of her collage
Light and white, wrapped together
Floating fiercely down the Hudson
Sari Dienes! Oh! Sari Dienes
How did you ever survive Irene?
Just barely, your poor soul ravaged
Contravene with a prayer machine
The hurricane that gave us a taste of hell
27 works lost, a lifetime washed away
Where are you Sari Dienes?
Winds blowing tourmaline
Walls crumbling like gelatin
Rain falling onto the ravine
Wind whistled through your prints
Trapped under debris and parts unseen
A sheetrock slab saved some lithographs
A wooden stick impaled your drawing
Dada is bleeding blue blood
Sky is bleeding raging waters
Gods of dream drowned unforeseen
Assemblage lost in a garage
Woman-artist of the future
Spirit rising from the subterrene
Sari Dienes, Oh! Sari Dienes
How did you survive
