Corporate Community Funds Accessibility Program for AGO’s Major Fall Exhibition

(TORONTO – September 23, 2010) The corporate community has come together with an unprecedented sponsorship in support of the Gallery’s major fall exhibition. Thanks to generous support from Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., Rogers Communications Inc., and Scotiabank Group, the Art Gallery of Ontario is thrilled to announce that admission to Maharaja: The Splendour of India’s Royal Courts is FREE TO VISITORS 25 YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER.

“The Art Gallery of Ontario is deeply grateful to our Patrons of the Exhibition for joining forces to make this program possible,” says Matthew Teitelbaum, AGO Director and CEO. “It is with great pleasure that we open our doors to this group of young visitors, and share with them this unforgettable history and extraordinary works of art.”

The Free Under 25 program will run from November 20, 2010 to April 3, 2011, with the exception of the holiday period from December 24, 2010 to January 2, 2011. Tickets to the exhibition will range from $12.50 for students and $22 for adults to $66 for families, including four adults. Admission includes access to the AGO’s permanent collection.

“Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. is pleased to be a Patron of this exciting exhibition at the AGO,” said Prem Watsa, Chairman and CEO of Fairfax. “This is an exhibition which will enrich the lives of its audience by providing access to some of the world’s most magnificent works of art.”

“This program allows anyone under 25 to learn and experience the pride and definition of India and appreciate global arts and culture in their own community,” said Nadir Mohamed, President and CEO, Rogers Communications. “Accessible education is important to Rogers, and we are proud to support this program as it connects youth and young adults with a unique and valuable cultural experience.”

“The Maharaja exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for new audiences to experience all that the AGO has to offer,” said Sabi Marwah, Vice-Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, Scotiabank. “At Scotiabank, we look to arts and culture as a vehicle that brings communities together. We are pleased to partner with the AGO to enhance the opportunity for the public to learn and share in this incredible cultural perspective.”

A Canadian exclusive, Maharaja: The Splendour of India's Royal Courts will be on view from November 20, 2010 to April 3, 2011. Organized in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, this is the first exhibition to comprehensively explore the opulent world of the maharajas and their unique culture of artistic patronage. Over 200 dazzling objects are featured, including paintings of spectacular royal processions, ceremonial weapons, elaborate jewellery and prized photographs by artists such as Man Ray and Cecil Beaton.

AGO Members receive free admission to the exhibition. Exclusive Members’ Previews will take place at the AGO on Wednesday, November 17 and Thursday, November 18.
