CN Tower Celebrates Earth Day
April 2010 (Toronto, Ontario) Canada’s National Tower celebrates Earth Day by lighting green the evening of April 22nd beginning at dusk and by participating in the City of Toronto’s Annual 20-Minute Toronto Makeover on April 23rd.
The CN Tower holds a BOMA BESt, a national green building certification program recognizing the commitment to sustainable best practices at Canada’s National Tower presented by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada.
BOMA Best is a program recognizing environmental leadership in commercial buildings by setting standards for best practices and helping owners and managers reduce their carbon footprint. The Tower received a BOMA Best -- Level 1 certification which recognizes an organization’s green practices assessing environmental areas including: energy, water, waste reduction and site, indoor environment, environmental management systems and, emissions and effluents.
“The CN Tower is committed to delivering an excellent experience within a framework that considers the environment, promotes sustainable best practices in our business operations and complies with appropriate environmental legislation,” says Jack Robinson, chief operating officer at the CN Tower. “We’re very proud of this recognition for our proactive efforts to date.”
The Tower’s proactive greening efforts are part of a journey of short and long term goals and current initiatives include:
Waste Management and Recycling programs Energy and Resource Conservation Eco-conscious facilities management and operations Reduced carbon footprint through local procurement and shipping efforts Serving cuisine that showcases seasonal ingredients and supports local farmers and suppliers Engaging our staff, visitors, suppliers and industry partners to share our sustainability message And environmentally sustainable landscaping and pest management practices that include Scotts Ecosense lawn and garden products
20-Minute Toronto Makeover

In support of the 20-Minute Toronto Makeover’s efforts to beautify the City, on Friday April 23 from 2-2:20pm the CN Tower will augment its rigorous cleaning practices by engaging additional Tower staff in a 20-Minute Makeover cleanup and CN Tower Communities in Bloom Gardens preparations.
