The European Union Film Festival welcomes Ottawa back to the cinema with full slate of 28 films
Taking place November 17 - December 3, 2022, the European Union Film Festival continues its mission to bring the best of contemporary filmmaking from the European Union to Canada’s capital.

OTTAWA, November 3, 2022 - The Canadian Film Institute (CFI) is proud to launch the 37th European Union Film Festival (EUFF). After two years of an exclusively online format, the CFI is elated for the EUFF to return to in-person screenings at the Ottawa Art Gallery with all the joys of the Festival atmosphere; meeting visiting filmmakers, enjoying receptions, and seeing fellow cinephiles. The Festival runs from November 17 - December 3, 2022, and features 28 films, one from each of the 27 European Union member states plus one film from Ukraine.
"After two years online, we are very excited to have the 37th edition of the EUFF in-person again in the Alma Duncan Salon!," said CFI Executive Director Tom McSorley. "We can't wait for our audiences to experience these amazing 28 films with big image and big sound."
The EUFF is presented with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the EU Member States.

EUFF opens with the Czech film Havel (Slávek Horák, 2020), a prismatic, utterly absorbing biographical drama inspired by the life and turbulent times of Václav Havel, a prominent Czech playwright, dissident, and, eventually, president of the newly-formed Czech Republic.
Among the guests at this year’s Festival is Greek director Vassilis Xiros, whose film A Day in the Life of a Teddy Bear screens Sunday, November 20. A former foreign affairs diplomat, Xiros realized his passion project with this cross-cultural relationship drama, the first-ever co-production between Greece and China.
On the Festival’s final day, the CFI will host a special benefit screening of the Ukrainian film Klondike (Maryna Er Gorbach, 2022). All ticket proceeds from this screening will be sent to the UNITED24 platform (an initiative by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine) to procure emergency transport vehicles for healthcare facilities in Kramatorsk, Ukraine.
Individual tickets are $14 with a 30% discount for CFI Supporter members, seniors, and students. A 6-Film Pack is available to CFI members for $50 and non-members for $60.
Many of this year’s films will also be available across Canada in the concurrent EUFF Online festival, which the CFI presents once again along with The Cinematheque in Vancouver and the European Union Film Festival of Toronto. EUFF Online runs November 18 - December 9 and can be viewed at euffonline.ca.
