Premiile grupului de la Observatorui - Ryan Piche, is in grade 10 at Ashbury College in Ottawa.
Ryan is in grade 10 at Ashbury College in Ottawa. To see the world and to be effect change, Ryan has been involved in volunteer tourism travelling to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Kenya. Together with his mom, he always bring something with us for others, such as clothing, shoes and small toys for children. Ryan is part of Not Just Tourists, an organization that provide a suitcases of medical supplies to deliver to medical facilities and practitioners in developing countries. In Costa Rica during 2017 March break, he participated in a conservation project (Tortuga de Pacuare) to help take care of a sea turtle habitat. We slept in very modest accommodations and ‘enjoyed’ eating beans and rice for a week during the 2017 March break.
Ryan loves sports and participates in recreational hockey, snowboarding, swimming, soccer, football, and track and field. He was part of Swimability (swimming) and the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiers (snowboarding and skiing).
Ryan won many awards in competitions and tournaments, and his collection of medals is a testament to his fortitude and motivation as an athlete. Arts are also a focus and we try to see as many shows as possible – anything from classical music to theatre to dance. He often participates in drawing contests, when encouraged/prompted. Most recently, his creativity has been directed to what he can do on a computer, including creating content for his YouTube channel and gaming with friends—activities where he can focus for extended periods of time. His most recent venture is to create a short film and he is currently recruiting people for sound, camera and so on. While Ryan’s time on the computer has to be managed, I am very pleased to see him being creative, playing and problem-solving all at the same time.
With a lack of family in Canada, particularity male role models in his life, Ryan was lucky to get a big brother with the help of Big Brother Big Sister Ottawa. The long application process outweighed the benefits of having Matt as his big brother. And after 6 years of hanging out together, playing sports and having fun, they decided to run a fundraiser to raise money so that another child can be matched with a mentor like Matt. Their success won them local media attention on CTV (Myers Auto Club Amazing Kid Contest), and in the Glebe Report.
We value Ryan's unique strengths and talents. Ashbury will benefit from these contributions as your family, in turn, will benefit from excellence in teaching and the positive, challenging environment. At Ashbury, Ryan will be engaged in a dynamic learning environment, and will be inspired and challenged to become an intellectually curious, compassionate and responsible citizen. Ashbury's faculty will be there to offer support and encouragement every step of the way. The education our teachers provide is rigorous and collaborative, and they will make a difference in your child's life.
The Ashbury experience is busy, exciting and hectic at times. While admission is a step to be celebrated, it is important that Ryan maintain marks and positive behaviour throughout the balance of the current school year. A significant decline in academic performance may result in this offer being withdrawn.
Ryan is a great student, a bus monitor and a great neighbour. In school he is doing his assignments on time, and he is always prepared for a challenge with a positive attitude and playful spirit.
