Museum of Estonians Abroad/VEMU
From September 15-16, the Baltic Heritage Network and VEMU will be holding a conference
focusing on the archives of Baltic people abroad. The online conference will be in English, with a
topical focus on the effects of the pandemic on archival work in memory institutions. On September 22 at 5pm, there will be an online lecture by Estonian historian Jaak Prozes about the current problems faced by Finno-Ugric peoples. This lecture will be the first of a series of events dedicated to Indigenous peoples in the autumn. The open calls for submissions to the VEMU collection campaigns of Estonian School Lore and the Baltic Canadian Imprints Collection Initiative: COVID-19 are also continuing through the month. Royal Ontario Museum

Bata Shoe Museum
It’s a new school year and the BSM has so much in store for everyone! Need some fun crafts to balance out the academics this month? Get your creativity flowing with their Camp in a Shoebox craft series exclusively on their YouTube channel. This month they’ll be bringing back their popular virtual offerings ~ the Salon Series and a new workshop series. Go inside the vault to learn more about various artefacts in their Off the Shelf series. Soundstreams
Soundstreams is presenting their operatic season premiere with Crow’s Theatre this September! Garden of Vanished Pleasures is a discovery of hope, resilience, and solace, devised and directed by Tim Albery. Composer Cecilia Livingston writes deeply-felt songs of love and loss, and they chime perfectly with Donna McKevitt's heart-aching songs that use beautiful texts drawn from English artist, filmmaker, and queer right’s activist Derek Jarman’s journals. Toronto Reference Library
The library’s Art of the Book exhibit has reopened in the TD Gallery at Toronto Reference Library. Celebrate the beauty and artistry of books from cover to cover. This exhibit showcases rare, fine press and artist-made books from Toronto Public Library’s Special Collections. Discover early printed books from the 1400s, richly decorated covers, whimsical miniatures, and contemporary forms that challenge our ideas about what a book can be. A book-lovers delight! Istituto Italiano di Cultura
The Istituto Italiano di Cultura welcomes the autumn season proudly supporting the Italian films at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. On September 7, they are pleased to present the novel “Tuscan Daughter” by Canadian author, cultural commentator and award-winning architecture critic, Lisa Rochon, with a reading by NY-based Actor & narrator of the audiobook, Carlotta Brentan. The presentation and book-signing will take place at the Alliance Française on Spadina Road. If you’ve ever wanted to learn Italian but were a little hesitant, European Day of Languages offers you the perfect opportunity to participate in a beginner-level Italian class on September 24th! Women's Art Association of Canada
All exhibitions are exhibited in The Women’s Art galleries and online. Summertime member exhibition continues until September 3. From September 9-27, WAAC presents Connections: New members’ show, with a ZOOM Opening reception September 10. From September 8-30, WAAC Studio artist Marjorie Moeser exhibits new work Far and Away in the Ruth Upjohn Gallery. On September 16 at 1pm, WAAC presents Artist Voice ZOOM talk with Suzy Lake, 'Are You Talking to Me?' This artist talk shares her experience and exploration as a photographer, performance artist and video producer. Registration is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. There will be a luncheon lecture on September 22 (Speaker to be announced). SPLASH group will exhibit from September 29 to October 6, with an Opening reception September 30. The Royal Conservatory
The Royal Conservatory of Music has announced their complete new 2021.22 concert season! More than 90 jazz, classical, world, and roots music concerts will take place at Koerner Hall, Mazzoleni Concert Hall, and the Temerty Theatre, starting October 2021. Subscriptions and concert streaming passes go on sale September 7 and all tickets go on sale September 10. In the meantime, you can also watch fantastic free online concerts on their digital on-demand platform, RoyalConservatory.Live, featuring extraordinary artists like Damien Sneed, the Breithaupt Brothers, Jane Bunnett, Heather Bambrick, Alexis Baro, Thompson Egbo-Egbo, Joanna Majoko, and many more. The Music Gallery is proud to announce the sixteenth edition of the X Avant Festival, entitled X Avant XVI: You In Mind, with the theme of “You In Mind”, taking place both in person and online this October 13–17. They are designing a safe and accessible Festival where audiences and artists can come together to celebrate and discover new work, and each other. The Bloor St. Culture Corridor, Toronto's most diverse arts and culture district, is a true creative cluster, an arts and culture destination, and a collaboration between some of Toronto's most dynamic arts and culture organizations.
The Bloor St. Culture Corridor offers the public a wide variety of arts genres, from museum experiences to films, art exhibitions to music concerts, and opportunities to experience some of Toronto's cultural diversity, including Aboriginal, French, Jewish, Italian, Japanese, Estonian, African and Caribbean arts and culture.
All Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations present arts and cultural events for the public year-round in destination venues located in a cluster along a vibrant stretch of Bloor Street West. Each year more than three million members of the public go to Bloor St. Culture Corridor arts and culture destinations, and attend exhibitions, performances, and events. Together, the Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations employ more than 5,500 culture workers and generate more than $629,500,000 in economic impact each year. In 2016, The Bloor St. Culture Corridor was successful in working with the City of Toronto to have the Bloor St. Culture corridor section of Bloor St. West designated an official City of Toronto cultural corridor.
