Explore European Heritage sites at Canada's International Pavilion
OTTAWA – To celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary, the European Union Delegation to Canada, in partnership with the National Capital Commission, is hosting a photo exhibit highlighting European historic sites at the International Pavilion.
The European Heritage Label features 29 sites that have left their mark in Europe’s history. Spanning from the dawn of civilization to the Europe we see today, these sites celebrate and symbolize European ideals, values, history and integration.
This year, the European Union is also marking a milestone anniversary - 60 years since the Treaty of Rome, its founding treaty.
"We are inviting the Canadian public to come and discover the historic sites that have contributed to the creation of today's Europe. The story of the European Union is one of building consensus and peace. The EU's 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, which is part of the exhibit, speaks to the European Union's quest for peace within Europe and beyond," said European Union Ambassador Peteris Ustubs.
"We are delighted to be part of the 2017 commemorative year and contribute to its success. Canadians and Europeans share deep roots and this celebration is a reflection of this unique friendship."
This landmark anniversary year comes at a remarkable time for Canada and the EU thanks to the new Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) – the texts of which are also on display as part of the exhibit.
"I am delighted to welcome the Delegation of the European Union to Canada to the National Capital Commission’s International Pavilion at 7 Clarence St. In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary visitors will have an opportunity to explore the many contributions of the European Union to Canada and to the world," said Dr. Mark Kristmanson, Chief Executive Officer, National Capital Commission.
The exhibit runs from 2 November to 12 November, Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Thursday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the International Pavilion, 7 Clarence Street, Ottawa.
