Stay Clear and Stay Safe This Victoria Day Weekend
Spring Rains Mean Fast Moving Water TORONTO, May 19, 2017 /CNW/ - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is reminding people to exercise caution around waterways when celebrating the Victoria Day Weekend. "Many areas of the province have had significant rainfall this spring, and water levels on many lakes and rivers are much higher than normal," says Mike Martelli, President, Renewable Generation and Power Marketing. "This is the unofficial start to summer and people want to get out on or near the water, but the land and water around OPG's dams and generating stations are no place for fishing, hiking or recreational sports." OPG's properties and facilities are clearly marked with warning signs. Barriers are also in place to prevent access. And as an extra safety measure, OPG will run its public awareness campaign on radio, social media and print to remind Ontarians to stay clear and stay safe over each long weekend this summer. OPG generates safe, clean, reliable, low-cost power for Ontario. More than 99 per cent of this power is free of smog and greenhouse gas emissions. Our power is priced 40 per cent lower than other generators, which helps moderate customer bills.
