The European Union and EU Member States join Canada's 150th celebrations

OTTAWA – The European Union Delegation to Canada and the Diplomatic Missions of EU Member States are delighted to join Canada's sesquicentennial festivities on 11 June with The European Union: Capitals & Cultures, a full European cultural experience as part of Ottawa Welcomes the World series at Lansdowne Park.

The day-long celebration will take you on a tour of Europe's beautiful capitals and cities, and features a rich programme of folk dance and live music. Among participating EU Member States are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden. The event is organized in partnership with Ottawa 2017.

"Europe's rich cultural heritage is remarkable and we are proud to be able to share this experience with our Canadian friends on this milestone anniversary year for both Canada and the European Union," said Marie-Anne Coninsx, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada. "This year the EU also marks the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the founding treaty of our European Union.

"We are thrilled to be part of the 2017 commemorative year and contribute to its success. The bonds Canadians and Europeans share run deep and this celebration is a reflection of this unique friendship," the Ambassador continued.

Doors open at 10 a.m. with the official inauguration at 10:30 a.m., followed by a multimedia presentation on the history of Rome in Cinema. The day's programme showcases folk dance performances and live music, accompanied by sampling of European traditional foods and wine. The event also features photo exhibits and a photo booth, kids' games and European souvenirs for sale. Throughout the day, fairgoers will have the opportunity to discover Europe's tourist and cultural treasures on display at the stands organized by the diplomatic missions.
