Canadian Air & Space Museum honours University of Toronto contribution to Apollo 13 astronauts' safe return

On Tuesday, April 13, the Canadian Air and Space Museum will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 13 by recognizing the little known role that the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) played in the safe return of the astronauts. Forty years ago, following an explosion that rocked the Apollo 13 space craft, Grumman Aerospace officials called UTIAS for help. The museum will present a Canadian Air & Space Pioneer award to UTIAS for its contributions.

Meet three of the original UTIAS team members who responded to the call from Grumman Aerospace, which built the lunar module, for help.

WHAT: Celebrating the Apollo 13 40th anniversary and honouring University of Toronto contribution to the safe return of Apollo astronauts

WHEN: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 10:30 am

WHERE: Canadian Air & Space Museum, 65 Carl Hall Road, Downsview Park, Toronto, Ontario
