The Music Gallery

Join the Music Gallery for a night of celebration as the modern Yiddish/Klezmer avant-folk group Black Ox Orkestar performs for the first time since 2005! Black Ox Orkestar formed from Montréal’s fertile post-punk scene of the early 2000s, featuring members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion and Sackville. After a 15 year hiatus, The Music Gallery is proud to present the kick-off of Black Ox Orkestar’s album release tour. Reunited during the pandemic, Everything Returns is an atmospheric, slightly melancholic album of uniquely modern Jewish folk music. With incisively atmospheric, uniquely modern Jewish diasporic folk music of brooding balladry filtered through the lens of an indie-rock sensibility, the album was exquisitely recorded by Greg Norman (Nina Nastasia, Jason Molina). Paired up with artist Xicada, a spacey, cerebral, droney solo act by artist Ilyse Krivel, this is the perfect place to be on a cozy December night. For more information, visit their website.

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir

Hallelujah, Messiah is back! Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir invite you to return to this cherished Toronto holiday tradition on December 16 and 17. Ivars Taurins once again leads the Orchestra, Chamber Choir, and a stellar cast of soloists in the resplendent acoustics of Koerner Hall. Come share in the wonder of Handel’s masterpiece live! Or, give the gift of music to your loved ones with a Digital Series Pass: Handel's Messiah will premiere on December 20, and along with exclusive concerts, lectures, and more, it makes the perfect holiday present. There are just two live performances so don’t delay: get your tickets (or your digital pass) here.
