Royal Ontario Museum






Extended! Great Whales and Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Due to high demand, Great Whales: Up Close and Personal’s run has been extended to June 26, 2022, allowing more visitors to enjoy the unique world of these majestic giants. The exhibition displays three real whale skeletons—the sperm whale, the blue whale, and the North Atlantic right whale—combined with fascinating science and large-scale audio and video experiences. Visitor-favourite Wildlife Photographer of the Year has also been extended to May 29, 2022, so more people can see the longest-running and most prestigious nature photography competition in the world. This exhibition is organized and presented by the Natural History Museum (NHM) in London. There’s still time to enter your best wildlife photos to the ROM Wildlife Photo Contest for a chance to win fabulous prizes including a camera kit courtesy of Henry’s and if you are inspired by nature, enter to win a trip for two to Newfoundland & Labrador to see whales, birds and ‘bergs! Toronto Reference Library






Visit the library’s new exhibit, A Study in Sherlock and His Creator: 50 Years of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, in the TD Gallery at the Toronto Reference Library. Explore the many facets of the world’s most famous detective writer, Arthur Conan Doyle. Includes early and rare editions of the Sherlock Holmes stories, original artwork, posters, film stills and memorabilia. Randolph Kids Performing Arts Summer Camps 2022! Join them for the month of August for exciting 1-week in person camps. Dance, sing, act, create, expand and make new friends in a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Women's Art Association of Canada






WAAC artist member Iwona Kmiec's solo exhibition, Scent of Laundry, continues until March 5 in Ruth Upjohn Gallery. The exhibition explores how we can stay positive and connected in this challenging pandemic era through the eyes of the artist. WAAC's Dignam Gallery and Ruth Upjohn Gallery present Echoes, a juried exhibition curated by WAAC's curatorial mentoring program March 12-30. In-person opening reception and live-streamed presentations March 12 at 1pm. On March 17 from 1-2 pm, WAAC's Artist Voice presents Playing with Fire with Dale Dunning, discussing the various procedures involved in making sculptures. VEMU Estonian Museum Canada






On March 6 at 2pm there will be an online screening of the Estonian feature film “Sandra Gets A Job”, in Estonian, with English subtitles. The film is a psychological drama about a young Doctor of Physics who unexpectedly loses her job and finds herself in difficult situations in her search for new work. On March 13, in celebration of Estonian Language Day, there will be an online event where speakers will be sharing poems, music and thoughts on the topic of being Estonian. VEMU is also honoured to promote the University of Tartu online lecture titled, “From Estonia to the World and from the World to Estonia” on March 31 by Jaan Valsiner, the visiting professor from the Estonian diaspora for 2021/22. VEMU and Estonian Music Week will also be opening registration for youth to participate in a DJ Live Remix and Sampling workshop musician Erik Laar will be lead participants through sampling Estonian records from the VEMU archives to a live DJ performance. Gardiner Museum






Step into a multi-sensory installation of ceramics, drawings, life-sized automatons, two-way mirrors, and coin-operated sculpture, set to an interactive score. The Gardiner Museum presents a bold new exhibition by internationally renowned Canadian multidisciplinary artist Shary Boyle. Outside the Palace of Me is Boyle’s first solo Canadian museum tour since she represented Canada at the Venice Biennale in 2013. She transforms the exhibition hall into a strange and captivating universe, parts theatre, carnival, and art museum. Reflecting on contemporary constructions of self through the language of costume, character, set design, and stage effects, the artist invites visitors to explore how we see ourselves and each other. The Japan Foundation, Toronto






The Japan Foundation, Toronto has reopened its doors to the public! Book your visit on their website and come check out items from their Library or see the Hiroshige’s “Edo Hyaku” ukiyo-e exhibition on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you’re interested in their selection of children’s stories or young adult literature, be sure to register for their online talk Parallel Worlds: Translating for Young Minds on March 3. For a collection that is available 24/7, the JFT OverDrive Library is constantly adding new Japan-related ebooks, audiobooks, and streaming videos covering a wide range of themes and topics. March also marks the end of STAGE BEYOND BORDERS - Selection of Japanese Performances. These 70 recorded stage performances with English subtitles are all free to watch for just a few more weeks. Toronto’s favourite shoebox launches their new virtual exhibition Boots & Blades: The Story of Canadian Figure Skating! Hot Docs Cinema turns 10! Join them as they celebrate a decade of bringing the best in documentary cinema to their community. Alliance Française de Toronto






Alliance Française Toronto is thrilled to present you its cultural program for March! Be prepared, there are many events to come. On March 12, Alliance Française will host a lecture about French painter Marcel Duchamp, who belonged to cubist, dada and conceptual art movements. This event is organized in partnership with the Toronto Public Library. On March 19, Alliance Française will welcome Mimi O’Bonsawin for a wonderful concert which will take you to the beautiful north-Ontario Landscapes. On March 24, the French actress Maud Andrieux will perform “La Douleur” by Marguerite Duras. This powerful work shows the horror lived during the 2nd world war in Europe. For the “Semaine de la Francophonie” (20-27th of March), Alliance Française Toronto will offer you a great selection of movies from Quebec, both online and on site. The Royal Conservatory






Award-winning pianist Jeremy Denk will perform Renaissance and Baroque works with Quebec’s Les Violins de Roy at The Royal Conservatory's Koerner Hall on March 6. Hailing from Nazareth, the Galilee Chamber Orchestra consists of Jewish and Arab musicians and will make their first Canadian appearance on March 21 with Canadian pianist Jon Kimura Parker. Celebrate the life and music of Dave Brubeck with a unique multimedia show on March 25 featuring music performed by his sons, bassist Chris, drummer Dan, and cellist Matt. The great Latvian cellist, Mischa Maisky, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suites No. 1, 4, and 5 on March 27. Additional performances this month include the Grammy nominated ARC Ensemble celebrating their 20th anniversary season on March 20, The Glenn Gould School Spring Opera 2022, featuring George Frideric Handel’s Rinaldo on March 16 and 18, and many more. Spring Arts and Culture at the Miles Nadal JCC starts early! Opening March 1, From the Depths: A Women’s Art Association of Canada Exhibition, featuring paintings, photographs, illustrations and sculptures of nine women artists. Istituto Italiano di Cultura






The Istituto unveils 3CODESIGN 3Rs: Reduce Recycle Reuse, an exhibition of 56 objects, products and accessories that are either recycled or made of sustainable materials, with sustainable technologies, designed by Italian designers and produced by Italian companies, providing an overview on how Italian design is working in the direction of environmental sustainability. Italian designer Antonio Aricò will also be on hand for a presentation on Italian design. On March 8, for International Women’s Day, Prof. Angelica Pesarini (U of T) will present her talk "You Were the Shame of Race": Black Italian women, history, and resistance. Taking place at the Alliance Française, Dr. Pesarini will illustrate stories of marginalization and resistance of Italian women of African descent born during the fascist colonial time in East Africa. The talk will show the complexities of the Black presence in Italian history and the difficulty to acknowledge issues of race, identity, and citizenship. Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir






Tickets are now on sale for Tafelmusik’s March digital events. They hope you will join them for one or both of these early spring events! Tafel Talks: Music in the Key of Green, premiering on March 16 at 7pm ET, is a wide-ranging conversation exploring the profound relationship between music and the environment, from the sustainability of materials used to make instruments, to the idea of retraining our ears to listen more closely to the natural world. Haydn & Friends, premiering on March 17 at 8pm ET, invites you to savour this classical chamber program full of wit and charm featuring music by Haydn and his contemporaries. Together, the Bloor St. Culture Corridor organizations employ more than 5,500 culture workers and generate more than $629,500,000 in economic impact each year. In 2016, The Bloor St. Culture Corridor was successful in working with the City of Toronto to have the Bloor St. Culture corridor section of Bloor St. West designated an official City of Toronto cultural corridor.
