World Literacy Canada’s 2014 “Write for a Better World”
Announcing the winner of World Literacy Canada’s 2014 “Write for a Better World” Contest
World Literacy Canada is proud to announce the winners of its 2014 “Write for a Better World” Contest. After receiving over 1,000 entries from students across the country, our guest judge, Canadian bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, selected the winning stories that she felt exemplified the ideals of global citizenship through their strong writing and creativity.
Write for a Better World is a writing contest for students in Grades 5 to 8 that challenges Canadian youth to think creatively about other cultures and issues of global importance. This year, World Literacy Canada received over 1,000 entries in both official languages, from all 10 provinces and 3 territories. The winning entries not only reflect the incredible diversity of our country, but are a true demonstration of the powerful role writing and literacy can play in forging connections between cultures, encouraging respect for others, and empowering youth to affect changes in their local and global communities.
This year’s winner receives $500 prize and one-on-one skype time with judge Kelley Armstrong. Top 9 finalists receive a $50 prize. All winners receive a world map and atlas, a copy of Loki’s Wolves by Kelley Armstrong, and other WLC swag. All of our winners have their stories published in the 2014 “Write for a Better World” Contest magazine!
