TOBERMORY, ON, Sept. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Well known as a popular hiking destination, the Bruce Peninsula, nestled between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, is home to iconic scenery, breathtaking trail views, and crystal clear waters. As the crowds of summer fade, sunny days and cool nights of autumn bring tranquility to the natural beauty of the peninsula that locals have been celebrating for 10 years with the Annual Bruce Peninsula Hike Festival. Fall in love with the Bruce this autumn, and embrace the local side of life.
Plan now and become a local for two days on October 4th and 5th. Whether this will be your first time exploring the Bruce Peninsula, or if you are simply in search of something new, you'll discover hidden gems along Bruce trails that are largely unknown to most visitors with guided hikes by Locals in the Know!
Hikes are offered for all ages and skill levels, so grab your boots, set your out-of-office, and join this annual adventure that transports you to another world while being really close to home.
The 10th Annual Bruce Peninsula Hike Festival is sponsored by Peninsula Bruce Trail Club in partnership with Parks Canada to raise funds for the Bruce Trail Conservancy. The festival combines the joys of hiking and socializing on the Bruce Trail. Join us this year at the festival headquarters located at the Bruce Peninsula National Park Visitor Centre in Tobermory.
Festival Highlights
Friday October 4th
1pm - Optional hike on Flowerpot Island, part of Fathom Five National Marine Park.
5:30-7pm - Festival Registration @ Parks Canada Visitor Centre.
7:30pm - Social Evening @ Tubby's Restaurant in Tobermory. Festival fee includes admission and appetizers.
Saturday October 5th
8am - 12noon - Morning Hike. Meet at Parks Canada Visitor Centre. Shuttle or carpooling available. Your choice of five hike options is available upon registration.
Lunch - An optional lunch, will be provided for $7.
1pm - 4:30pm - Afternoon Hike. On registration website, choose one of five group activities based on your interests. Activities range from "Art on the Trail" to a guided hike along Georgian Bay coast line.
7pm - Wine & Cheese Reception @ Parks Canada Visitor Centre (Drinks and food included in registration).
8pm - Guest Speaker: "Nine Parks, Four Months, Two Wheels" Guest Speaker Robyn Simard cycled as much of Canada as she could in 2007 and will share her highlights from the Alaskan Border to the Gaspé coast.
Sunday October 6th 2013
- Celebrate the Bruce Trail Day with a hike that begins at the Pease Side Trail on Scenic Caves Road in between Lion's Head and Wiarton Ontario. Your own transportation will be required.

The festival is proud to partner with Parkbus - bringing festivalgoer's from downtown Toronto to this popular hiking experience. Parkbus, a non-for-profit organization, offers an environmentally friendlier and affordable option for residents of the Greater Toronto Area to get out, discover and enjoy Canada's treasured natural wonders.
The bus will pick passengers up from three convenient downtown locations in Toronto on Friday morning (York Mills, 30 Carlton Street and Dufferin and Bloor) and bring them back from Tobermory on Sunday afternoon.
